DESCRIPTION

The school is located at Makongeni estate in Makadara ward, along Vijana Road, approximately 150 meters from Jogoo road junction in Nairobi County. It began in 2012, to improve the Education system in the area. It is registered as a community school, meaning it’s neither private nor public school. It strives
to offer quality education for every child. The school serves the community and the neighboring estates.
The school has a 6,000liter water capacity tank filled with a water bowser which is filled up on a monthly basis. About 35,000 people live in the Makongeni community and all of them have no access to clean drinking tap water close to their homes at an affordable price. Makongeni estate was built for rail workers in the mid-20th century as a temporary housing of African bachelors working for east African Railways &
harbors. It was never designed for a family set up but upon the railways management exit, people kept occupying the houses and inherited them to their descendants. Their inability to pay water supply led to complete disconnection of the water pipeline around the community, forcing the residents to buy
water from water vendors or from neighboring communities wells. The water vendors/bowsers get their water from Shaurimoyo, Jogoo road and South C from subsequent refill stations. The nearest refill station is in Shaurimoyo which is approximately 10 Kms away. A common challenge faced is accidents that arise while the mkokoteni riders are crossing the highway to access the water source. In most cases you will find that the water at the station is sold at a low rate, but since it’s quite a distance the price is usually tripled, and they also include transportation charges. This effect is experienced by most consumers, who must buy water on the regular.
