DESCRIPTION
The project seeks to tackle the challenges posed by climate change and the ongoing mismatch between job requirements and the skills provided by education and vocational training systems. Its goals include strengthening the capacities of vocational education and training (VET) providers to effectively engage with business associations and enterprises in the agricultural sector. The project aims to enhance the quality and responsiveness of VET in third world countries to address economic and social developments related to climate change and adaptation. Additionally, it aims to improve the relevance of skills provision in the labor market and align VET with local, regional, and national development strategies, particularly in the context of green, digital, and inclusive transition.
The central focus of the project is to place green transition at the core of the transformation of vocational education in Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda, and Mozambique. The objective is to shift agriculture from traditional subsistence farming to climate-smart, nature-positive practices that generate income and jobs. The project will accomplish these objectives through a comprehensive analysis of best practices in vocational training for sustainable agriculture, development of a training program to enhance sustainability competencies of small-holder farmers, design of an ICT-based coaching program for women farmers focusing on farm modernization, innovation, and market orientation.
Additionally, the project involves establishing working groups comprising VET institutions, private sector companies, and women farmers to design VET programs, organizing international exchange activities for teaching and non-teaching staff of VET providers to facilitate mutual learning, and conducting targeted dissemination activities for climate change mitigation and adaptation, biodiversity, with active involvement from the private sector.
