DESCRIPTION

On a daily basis, about 400,000 people pass through Uhuru Park in Nairobi to relax, work, or catch up with friends. A majority of young people use the park as a waiting place: These are young people who spend time in the park after traveling from home (mostly from upcountry) to look for employment in Nairobi. Plastic water bottles, a source of clean drinking water for those who can afford it, litter the area.

After the successful implementation of the first tap station at water point 4 in Uhuru Park, Nairobi, the International Transformation Foundation, in conjunction with the Join The Pipe Foundation and the Nairobi City County Government, decided to set up another tap station in the busy Nairobi park. The team decided on Water Point 1, which is near a very busy footpath to the Upper Hill area and near the busy Freedom Corner. The construction of the new tap station began in April, with the launch date settled on June 5, 2018, which coincided with the World Environment Day.
