DESCRIPTION
Brighter Kenya School was started in early 2008 as an informal school in Soweto slums and is dedicated to working with poor and vulnerable children, families, and their communities to create the infrastructure and policies for them to access education facilities in their respective localities and to help find durable ways to alleviate poverty. Through such assistance, the school has seen tremendous success in reaching a greater part of the community, especially women and children, and accessing the most important aspect of their future wellbeing through education. The school has a population of 125 children who are from the Soweto slum. The school is founded in service to communities and carries out programs that are intended to improve the living standards and livelihood security of individuals and communities, thus helping the children and their families to break from poverty.
The Water Kiosk Project creates a podium for children from poor families and communities to be fully enriched health-wise by the project since most people and families in Soweto and in the learning center are suffering from using water that is not well treated or that is unfit for human consumption in their homes. Most of the inhabitants of Soweto slums are faced with numerous waterborne diseases, which subsequently culminate in contemptible loss of life. The kiosk was intended to reach over 300,000 households. However, the school administration was not able to materialize, as after receiving the second and final kiosk construction funding, it went missing without reason.
