DESCRIPTION
Jan-Kean Progressive School is a community-based school located in Matopeni Slum (Kayole, Nairobi). The school opened its doors to the less fortunate pupils of Kayole and Matopeni areas of Embakasi in 1996 and has 210 children. Jan-Kean Progressive School was selected to participate in the JTP project’s first microcredit project for a school with a sustainable business model. A water kiosk was built at the school (with a water storage tank and sanitation system upgrade), providing water to the school population and community residents at a very minimal and affordable price. The kiosk was opened on March 1, 2014. The kiosk enables financial, educational, and capacity development, improved sanitation and health, and socioeconomic opportunity for the school.
